Showing artists Charlotte Cornish, Clare Halifax, Trevor Price & Marissa Weatherhead, this collection looks at the small moments in life that are often overlooked – whether that be appreciating the colour in an artwork, experiencing nature, or a feast with loved ones.
Charlotte Cornish delights us once again with her abstract works, exploring her appreciation of the world through colour and line with her energetic mark making. Her compositions are overlapped elements within the things she sees in her every day, and her emotional responses to her experiences. Charlotte’s work explores the unending possibility of colour and balance, building up many layers of thinly poured paint, contrasting with directly applied, thicker marks.
Clare Halifax’s new drawings walk us through the scenes of nature in London - we can be reminded of autumnal walks, the colour of turning leaves and the smell of the crisp air. Clare is influenced by the environment she lives in – she combines the bold colour of urban living in with the luscious settings of parks, trees and flora. We see elements of her silkscreens – the blocks of colour and grided lines disguising themselves in the forest floors all add to the depth and decoration of her compositions.
Later on in September, Trevor Price’s new intaglio editions will join the collection. After moving from London to St. Ives, Trevor became infatuated with the Cornish coast and nature. Trevor’s new surroundings and love for outdoor swimming developed a new path for him with large scale intaglio prints. Beginning as photographs, Trevor will pixelate the images to abstract them into shapes and patterns to be carved into wood or etched into a Perspex sheet, capturing the drama of light and shadow of the natural surroundings.
New artist Marissa Weatherhead’s still life paintings explore the delicate balance of abundance and fluidity. We see plentiful tables of seafood, flowers, fruits and glasses of wine sitting on large tables, accompanied by seaside or interior backdrops. Marissa’s painting style simplifies her subjects, concentrating on what we know about an object through knowledge and visual understanding. Her exuberant colour palate invigorates her often familiar subjects, celebrating the small luxuries in life.
