With festival season officially under way, a care home in Wantage is welcoming the community for a fun-filled day of food and celebration.

Saturday 8th August, from 11am–3pm, visitors to Charlton Lodge in Wantage can look forward to a cultural food festival, with a specific focus on flavours from the Caribbean.

Guests can sample a selection of delicious dishes, such as jerk chicken with a glass of rum punch. There will also be live entertainment from Alice who will be singing an array of summer tunes.

87-year-old Charlton Lodge resident, June Greenwood, said: “I always enjoy a party with live music! I’m looking forward to tasting some new foods.”

The event is part of the ‘A Taste of Home’ initiative, which will see all Care UK homes host foodie-themed celebrations and share what life in a care home is really like.

Each festival will showcase sustainable, community-focused initiatives while celebrating the diversity and creativity within the homes, from residents’ favourite recipes and traditional dishes to seasonal menus featuring locally sourced ingredients.

Carla Kell, Home Manager at Charlton Lodge, said: “We’re delighted to be welcoming the local community to our very own food festival!

“We are part of a strong community here in Wantage, and days like this are a wonderful way of bringing people together to celebrate our shared love of food, while giving residents the opportunity to share their favourite recipes and traditions with younger generations.

“The day not only promises a lot of laughter, but it is also an excellent way for residents to meet and mingle with lots of new faces – and some familiar ones. We can’t wait to welcome everyone through the doors.”
