With festival season officially under way, two care homes in Henley-on-Thames are welcoming the community for a fun-filled day of food and celebration.

Care UK’s Acacia Lodge and Huntercombe Hall will open their doors to families and neighbours for a food festival, inviting guests to tuck in and celebrate the nation’s shared love of great cuisine, community and connection.

On Friday 7th August, from 2.30pm-4.30pm, visitors to Acacia Lodge, on Quebec Road, can look forward to a regatta-themed afternoon inspired by the sights, sounds and flavours that make Henley-on-Thames so special. Guests will be invited to raise a glass of locally brewed Brakespear beer, enjoy a selection of fresh fruits, sandwiches, cocktails and soak up live music from Sophie, a local singer.

Meanwhile, Huntercombe Hall, on Huntercombe Place, will be hosting a traditional summer fete on Saturday 8th August from 1pm-5pm featuring street food vendors serving an assortment of dishes such as burgers, BBQ, hot dogs, asian noodles, samosa, spring rolls, popcorn, sweets and cakes.

There will also be live entertainment from Cherie, a belly dancer, and Hannah Lebrecht, a singer and performance. As well as a host of stalls, games and activities for all ages.

Shirley Rogers, a resident at Huntercombe Hall, said: “I am very much looking forward to the event, each year they amaze me with their ideas.  I’m feeling very excited about Taste of Home, the food and entertainment will remind me of my travels in Asia.”

The events are part of the ‘A Taste of Home’ initiative, which will see all Care UK homes host foodie-themed celebrations and showcase what life in a care home is really like.

Each festival will showcase sustainable, community-focused initiatives while celebrating the diversity and creativity within the homes, from residents’ favourite recipes and traditional dishes to seasonal menus featuring locally sourced ingredients.

Catia Pereira, Home Manager at  Huntercombe Hall, said: “We’re delighted to be welcoming the local community to our very own food festival!

“We are part of a strong community here in Henley-on-Thames, and days like this are a wonderful way of bringing people together to celebrate our shared love of food, while giving residents the opportunity to share their favourite recipes and traditions with younger generations.

“The day not only promises a lot of laughter, but it is also an excellent way for residents to meet and mingle with lots of new faces – and some familiar ones. We can’t wait to welcome everyone through the doors.”
