On Saturday 8th August from 12.30pm-3.30pm, Care UK’s Stowford House will open its doors to families and neighbours for a food festival, inviting guests to tuck in and celebrate the nation’s shared love of great cuisine, community and connection.

Visitors to the Faringdon Road home can look forward to a lively barbecue celebrating Abingdon’s much-loved local breweries, offering a selection of local beers for guests to try out and enjoy. There will also be live entertainment from local talent Tamzin Osborn and Laurence Williams, giving residents, care home team members and guests the chance to relax, enjoy the music and soak up the festival atmosphere in the home’s gardens.

Marjorie, a resident at Stowford House, said: “I used to live In Abingdon. Back then, everyone knew their neighbours, so it will be wonderful to see so many people coming together here to celebrate our traditions and our town! I’m not much of a beer lover, but I’m sure lots of locals will enjoy it! I am looking forward to it.”

The event is part of the ‘A Taste of Home’ initiative, which will see all Care UK homes host foodie-themed celebrations and showcase what life in a care home is really like.

Each festival will showcase sustainable, community-focused initiatives while celebrating the diversity and creativity within the homes, from residents’ favourite recipes and traditional dishes to seasonal menus featuring locally sourced ingredients.
