Join us for a trip to BBOWT’s Bernwood Meadows Nature Reserve: these traditional hay meadows, brimming with wildflowers and insects, are a magnificent sight in spring and early summer. Over 100 species of flowering plants and some special butterflies can be found here.
Our walk-in will allow us to look out for butterflies of the woodlands and rides as we walk to the meadows. We will then look at the butterflies of the meadows but will spend significant time looking for our target species on the hedgerows. Target species: Black Hairstreak and other butterflies of the meadows and woods.
You are welcome to bring a picnic and chat about all things butterfly, moth and conservation over lunchtime.
Accessibility & risks: mostly level ground, can be soft after rain.
The track we will walk in on is rutted and muddy in places. Please check for ticks after the walk and let the leader know if you have picked up any ticks. (Tick advice)
Booking Required. FE has asked us to limit numbers so others can park and enjoy this fabulous site. Please check here the evening before the walk to make sure it is going ahead as planned.
