With festival season officially under way, a care home in Gorleston is welcoming the community for a fun-filled day of food and celebration.

On Tuesday 11th August, from 4pm-6pm, Care UK’s Woodland Court will open its doors to families and neighbours for a food festival, inviting guests to tuck in and celebrate the nation’s shared love of great cuisine, community and connection.

Visitors to the Guinevere Road home can look forward to sampling delicious, locally grown food, including a British classic – baked potatoes loaded with a variety of tasty toppings.

Amongst the residents looking forward to the day is former farmer and expert on local homegrown produce Richard Border, who commented: “I’m really looking forward to the homegrown food festival, it really brings back memories of my farming days.”

The event is part of the ‘A Taste of Home’ initiative, which will see Care UK homes across the country host foodie-themed celebrations and share what life in a care home is really like.

Each festival will showcase sustainable, community-focused initiatives while celebrating the diversity and creativity within the homes, from residents’ favourite recipes and traditional dishes to seasonal menus featuring locally sourced ingredients.

Kate Smith, Home Manager at Woodland Court, said: “Our food festival offers a wonderful opportunity for residents to rediscover their favourite childhood traditions and recipes and share them with the local community.

“Food plays an important part in all of our lives, and there’s something special about the way it can evoke happy memories and emotions. That’s why sharing family recipes and favourite dishes is so meaningful for residents here.

“We’d love for the community to join us, experience these much-loved dishes and celebrate the stories behind them – it’s shaping up to be a truly special day.”
