Music and cinema will play a central role in Newmarket's Diamond Jubilee celebrations this June.

The council's events manager, Kay Dawson announced that an event featuring two local bands and a family film in an outdoor theatre would take place on the day itself.

With a licenced bar and food stalls also on site, it should be a great occasion for the people of the town.

Local bands Macca and A4Teen will be performing on a stage provided by Masters Logistics before a family film (TBA) will be played beneath the stars.

The event will take place at  The Severals sports pavilion, in Bury Road and will start at 5.00pm running through until 10.

Elsewhere in the region, the Jubilee is being marked by a tree planting ceremony in Soham, a 'Teddy Bear Zipwire' at Wood Ditton's St Mary's Church and a Street Party at Burwell Museum.

Or you could still host your own party - as we reported in thebestof Newmarket's blog recently, Newmarket Council will foot the bill for the applications, although you may have to check the deadlines!
