Newmarket is set to get into the Olympic Spirit on 7th July as the Olympic Torch pays a visit on its way to London 2012.

And a special day of fun activities and events is planned for the town to mark the occasion which will also see the annual Newmarket Carnival and parade and the launch of the Council’s Festival of Culture and the Newmarket Festival.

Plus for those of you wanting to catch a glimpse of history, the route of the torch has also been announced, which will begin at 5.30pm as a team of seven lucky torchbearers will take the iconic symbol through the village along Noel Murless Drive, along Fordham Road past the Clock Tower before making its way along High Street to Barbara Stradbroke Avenue.

The seven torchbearers were nominated by the public and will be wearing a white and goal uniform designed by adidas as they run their stretch of the route, cheered on by family and friends.

It really is a once in a lifetime experience for Newmarket, so make sure you come along to line the route and enjoy the day.
