Now sadly it’s time to address something not so good occurring in our midst in Newmarket. As of next month, cuts and money saving ventures mean that we will be losing our out-of-hours service at Newmarket Hospital provided by Harmoni.
The service works with the NHS to provide invaluable care to patients in need outside of normal working hours, but now due to spending cuts, we will be required to find a way to get to Mildenhall Health Clinic as a first port of call - a challenge for those who are not close by or have easy means of travel.
This comes as a great disappointment to councillors and the local community alike, highlighting the fact that patients and people in the locality to which the service is the most important, were not included in the decision to pull the service from our community.
Cllr Shirley Crickemere has shown obvious dismay at the decision, and as a campaigner for Newmarket Hospital, is intently disappointed in such a decision being made.
