Newmarket court set to close

Mildenhall Magistrates Court will be one of twenty courts shutting its doors across the UK, following a review by the Justice Department.

Launched in October last year, the results of the review were announced yesterday and will see a number of courts across the country deemed 'under-used' closing down.

Justice Secretary Jack Straw commented on the closures, "The Government must always look to ensure there is an effective and efficient system to deliver justice so that we can continue to provide these vital public services at a level that offers real value for money for the taxpayer. It is no longer necessary to have a court in every small town.”

There is currently no date set for the closure.
