Buying local is the novel approach of thebestof Newmarket’s, erm, Buy Local Campaign.

Here at thebestof Newmarket, we are all about promoting excellence locally. We only list local businesses who we know have been highly recommended by our members. We love to hear your views on people who have gone above and beyond.

Buying local is vital to your local community. It keeps your high street vibrant and helps keep local businesses - important to the elderly and those who find it harder to travel further afield – going.

But don’t take our word for it. We rely on your recommendations, and your testimonials, so don’t take our word for it when we wax lyrical about great local shops and suppliers.

Here’s a few comments that our members have made about business who really are thebestof Newmarket.

Lanes Bakery

“A great, popular village bakery, from hot bacon rolls first thing, to delicious pasties and amazing sausage rolls for lunch, to everything you could wish for to accompany afternoon tea. Friendly staff and mouthwatering selections... Lovely!!”

Fenway Television Ltd

“Excellent impartial advice from a family run business. A far better service than the multi - national stores. Highly recommended.”

Manchett's Budgens

"Although we have three grocery stores in our village I choose to stop at Budgens in Burwell. I never fail to laugh, smile or laugh after shopping there. There is always a friendly welcome, no-one is ever miserable or impolite. It is like you are part of the family."

Eric Tennant Quality Butchers

"The service, the quality of the meat, everything is good and it's always a pleasure to buy from them. Nothing is ever too much trouble and they always offer advice and suggestions of how to cook it. The queue outside can be daunting but with so many friendly butchers inside you don't wait for long.

"I only ever buy meat there now as it isn't really any more expensive than buying from the supermarket and you buy just the amount you want and the cut you want too."

So don’t forget that there is some magnificent quality right on your doorstep - so don't immediately turn to the internet or the retail parks as you may be missing out on what makes our community great... human interaction and the passion they have for their business.

And when you find that great local business, let thebestof Newmarket know and we can spread the word!
