A breathtaking journey into the heart of Tango Argentino is taking place at the Corn Exchange: from virtuoso displays of traditional tango dance to the exquisite sounds of 1930s Buenos Aires and the powerful Nuevo Tango music of Astor Piazzolla. Tango Siempre are the UK’s leading tango ensemble, presenting Tangomotion at Corn Exchange, Newbury on Thursday 29 April at 7.45pm. This is a great opportunity to see Tango Siempre again after they wowed audiences at the Newbury Spring Festival in 2008.
Tangomotion features four of the UK's leading tango dancers, Giraldo Escobar, Alexandra Wood, David Benitez and Kim Schwarz. From classic tangos, milongas and valses to contemporary tango pieces, the dancers of Tangomotion combine elegance with virtuosic athleticism to create a truly breathtaking performance. The Tangomotion dancers have previously appeared in BBC Strictly Come Dancing, Tango Por Dos, the Channel 4 film Dance, Sally Potter's Covent Garden production of Carmen and Madonna's film Evita.
This is accompanied by live music from Tango Siempre and the outstanding Argentinean singer Guillermo Rozenthuler. Tango Siempre's music is passionate, intense, soulful and unique. Their repertoire includes the intoxicating rhythms and melodies of 1930's Buenos Aires and powerful new works by members of the ensemble.
Tango Siempre are the UK's leading tango company. Since 1998 they have worked extensively throughout the UK and Europe touring numerous projects ranging from highly successful tango dance shows (Subitango as well as Tangomotion) through to collaborations with internationally acclaimed jazz musicians, Gilad Atzmon, Steve Arguelles, Ian Ballamy, Paolo Russo and Huw Warren.
A video clip of Tangomotion filmed live at a sell-out show in The Lowry in 2009 can be viewed on the Corn Exchange website. For more information about Tangomotion visit www.tangomotion.co.uk and for Tango Siempre visit www.tangomusic.co.uk .
