See Ruby Wax’s Poignant and Hilarious New Show at The Corn Exchange, Newbury.
Ruby Wax and acclaimed musician Judith Owen combine their talents in a new show coming to the Corn Exchange on Saturday 1 May.
Ruby had it all - career, dream house, husband, kids - but people soon realised something was wrong when she painted her house the same colour 'beige' for the 47th time. There was only one thing for it - send her to the Priory! Told with wit, humour and a lot of heart, this is Ruby at her belting best - when she's losing it!
Ruby Wax is on razor sharp form in this hilarious, yet poignant comedy show. Having both suffered from depression, Ruby and Judith believe sharing their experience with others and openly talking about it with others who suffer is the best way to heal. Wax was checked into the Priory in the Nineties after a nervous breakdown at the height of her career. Ruby now has an interactive forum on the BBC called, Ruby’s Room for the BBC on which Ruby discusses mental health issues. Although dealing with a difficult topic, Ruby Wax admits that this she thinks this is the funniest show she has ever written and in it she is on razor sharp form.
Equal parts musicality, personality and wit, Judith Owen’s music combines pop, rock, jazz, classical, R&B and theatrical influences. Owen is especially beloved for her live performances, where her jazz-folk voice conveys the vulnerable, emotional side of her character. In this way, Judith Owen’s music is to her a way to overcome her own depression and she yearns to reach out to those also struggling with it. Ruby Wax – Losing It? is a poignant, funny yet devastatingly honest two woman show tracing the emotional descent of Wax, through music and monologues. 2010 marks the beginning of the duo's tour in theatres throughout the UK.
Ruby Wax is closely associated with Comic Relief. 50p of every ticket sold will be donated to the charity. www.time-to-change.org.uk Guests are invited to join Ruby and Judith for 20 Minute Q & A session after the show.
Ruby Wax – Losing It? will be at Corn Exchange, Newbury on Saturday 1 May at 7.45pm. Tickets are £21 (£19.50 concs) and are available at the Box Office on 01635 522733 or www.cornexchangenew.com
