An extraordinary sight awaits visitors to The Royal County of Berkshire Show over the weekend of 18-19th September, as a 36 feet tall wooden wicker sculpture will be towering above the Showground.
The Wicker Man – Oxford Sculpture Project is run by a small, dedicated team of volunteers, supporting the children’s charity ROSY (www.rosy.org.uk). ROSY provides respite nursing for Oxfordshire’s sick and terminally ill youngsters.
The Wicker Man Project ran a competition for schoolchildren across the County to design the actual sculpture. Over 1000 entries were received and the winner was 10 yr old Reuben Morris-Dyer from Stanford in the Vale Primary School, with his design which he called ‘Zedlock’.
The Wicker Man team worked with schoolchildren around Oxfordshire to help build ‘Zedlock’ - who is now complete. He will be arriving at the Show on the first day of opening and will be there the whole weekend. Make sure you come along and see him – he won’t be easy to miss!
