As before the restaurant looks good the food was fine and the service friendly. However we were disappointed on arrival to find that the set lunch menu of two courses for £11 had been removed even though it was still advertised on the website.
We were offered the Sandwich,Ciabatta and Salads menu and selected ciabattas only to the be told that they were unavailable today. The sandwich and the chips on the side were excellent but we missed the option of the previous set menu which had been enjoyed before.
We had driven past this restaurant a few times, but never tried it till yesterday. What a lovely surprise. The food was superb... and we were served by a lovely, friendly young man who made us so welcome.
We went on pie night, but don't be fooled by the title.... the pies were superbly cooked and presented, with short crust pastry wrapped around beautifully cooked meat, which melted in your mouth. The 'pud' which came with the package was also beautifully presented and perfectly put together. We shall certainly be back.
Having escaped the children for the first time since arrival of our second, we wanted to try somewhere local that we hadn't been before. Having driven past many times and seen how busy it was, the White Lion was where we chose, and were very impressed indeed.
A couple of well made Hendricks and Tonic were followed by a lovely bottle of Portuguese Fitou, accompanied our meal perfectly (Lamb rump and sesame crusted Trout were our choices for main).
I definitely recommend and will return when chance allows !
We ate here recently as members of a thriving luncheon club which travels around Leicestershire seeking what it may devour!
The White Lion is a pleasantly situated and comfortable pub. I sometimes think it's not really fair to judge a venue on the strength of a mass visit but such visits are after all part of what a place is about and the White Lion coped with us extremely well. The food is a cut above your average pub fare especially in its presentation but quality is not neglected. I'd opted out of the puds , a decision which I regretted when they made their appearance! The staff also passed my "all at once test" i.e.delivering all the orders within a reasonable time frame. No mean feat when 26 are waiting to be served. The pub in its commendable efforts to give us our own space did'nt quite give us enough of it unfortunately. Our room strained to fit us in and with the low ceilings the noise was sometimes ear splitting! However, a good time was had by all all agreed that the White Lion was a real find.
Because we live locally and have heard good reports from friends, we visited on a whim on Friday lunchtime. The choices on the set menu exceeded our expectations. Unpretentious but varied, all well presented and filling. The bar offers two real ales and the wine list is comprehensive. I can think of several so-called gastro-pubs in other villages in the Lutterworth area with a similar ambiance, but you could pay twice the price and the staff would not be so obliging. As Airbnb hosts, we shall definitely add the White Lion to our list of places for guests to eat out in the area.
We came here after seeing it on facebook and reading the reviews online. We wanted to try somewhere new that wasn't too far to travel....... and can honestly say we were not disappointed!!! The food was fantastic, extremely tasty with portions of just the right size. We enjoyed 3 really nice courses (with drinks) and were pleasantly surprised when the bill came........ not cheap but not overpriced either.
The service was spot on. We didn't have to wait too long between courses and the staff had just the right amount of banter and chat with us, so as we didn't feel any intrusion (or neglect) by any of them. All in all we will definitely come back and will be recommending to everyone we know.
Well done White Lion team. You've got it exactly right!!!! x
Here below are the comments of those who came along last Wednesday evening to the Safari Supper. As you could see the group were reluctant to leave at the end of the evening as we all had had a really lovely time. I would like to thank you to you and all your staff for the efforts you all put in...
Here below is the email that I sent out to Safari Supper members asking for their comments followed by their replies....
First I would like to say a big thank you for coming along last night especially as you were coming along 'blind' and didn't know what was on offer. These Safari Supper evening would not work without your obvious enthusiasm.
Our evening last night was a bit like the hokey pokey. First we were in, then we were out, then we were in again!Did you think Carley and her team made an effort to deliver!
Let me know what you think regarding the food choices, the price, the quality of the food, staff, the service, and ambience etc. I would appreciate your responses by the end of the weekend if possible. How can such evenings be improved?
Thanks for a most enjoyable evening – rotten apple turned into a Golden Delicious! I thought the bread and dipping sauce was a thoughtful and much appreciated extra. My prawn starter was delicious – 10/10.Being really picky the hamburger was tasty but slightly dry, improved by the tomato ketchup requested. Possibly it would have been better if the cheese had been melted over the top instead of an uncooked slice underneath. However the chips were delicious – 8/10. The chocolate brownies were to die for – 10/10. An expresso finished off a fabulous meal – 10/10. Overall the food was great value for money. Carley and her team couldn’t have been more helpful and the ambience warm and inviting. When combined with great company it made for a most convivial evening and can’t wait to go back.
Afternoon Stephen, it was a nice surprise to have the Safari Supper back on.
Choice of food was very good and all tasted delicious, as for price no complaints as it was very good value.Carley and her team where exceptionally good. 10 out of 10 for service, also must not forget the Chef.
As for the ambience,it was nice to be tucked away in a very pleasant part of the restaurant. We would certainly recommend Carley and her team at The White Lion.
Wherever we go it is always going to be a little loud because of the number of us.
Thank you again for arranging the meal last night.I think Carley and her team made a supreme effort to deliver. The food was excellent, although I’d have liked a larger portion of bread and butter pudding. The waiters were also most attentive and pleasant.
All in all it was a lovely evening and one certainly couldn’t grumble at the price!!!
As always I thought it was excellent, There was a good choice of food (too much "mashed/fondant potato" on the menu for me which limited my choice but I it is fashionable so shouldn't complain). The chocolate brownie was superb and overall I thought the meal was good value. I thoroughly enjoyed the evening.
David and I thought Carley did us proud at such short notice. We both enjoyed our meals and thought they were excellent value. The young waiters were very efficient and friendly. Good to look at too!
Another a very successful evening thanks to all your hard work.Thank you for another successful and enjoyable evening in spite of the uncertainty.
We have often driven past the White Lion and wondered what it was like. We were very pleasantly surprised at the interior and felt the staff were friendly and welcoming. Although the set menu was limited, the food we had was well cooked and presented. We thought that overall it was good value.
We look forward to the Safari Supper next month.
Despite the uncertainty regarding the supper, it turned out to be a very enjoyable evening. The ambience was very good and value for money was excellent. The only negative comment I heard from some was that the dessert was very small.Looking forward to the next one.
From the above you can see we enjoyed the evening very much. Personally my bread and butter pudding could do with being a little larger; I should have chosen the brownie!
Beautiful fresh food, served in a friendly atmosphere. Recently refurbished pub , clean toilets , good wine list.
Thursday night has a pie and pud offer at £11.95 which tempted us to try the White Lion for the first time.
All four of us went for the pie and pud but the full menu was available. The meal comes with two small pies either side of lovely creamy mash and gravy. One pie is steak and the other is chicken and mustard. Both were delicious. I had a sundae for dessert whilst the others had chocolate cake. Again desserts were delicious but we were all too full to finish them.
Gorgeous environment, great service and excellent food. Pie and Pud night highly recommended. We will be back.
Very pleasant atmosphere, good service, reasonably priced menu- strongly recommend. Chicken particularly good, but gourmet burger and many others tasted good.
We called in following visit to armageddon and were pleasantly surprised... The weather was nice so we sat out in the court yard. Good portions and would definitely call in again, if where passing

Dined as a family of four last Sunday.
Lovely setting and well thought out decor. You could see that a lot of thought had gone into the layout and style of the restaurant. Service and the initial welcome was warm and friendly.
Had starters of 2 soups, 1 goats cheese parcel and 1 x terrine. All were pleasant, but no more than that. A little uninspiring to be honest. The terrine was too cold and the tomato chutney (whilst incredibly flavoursome, was almost over-powering). The Goats cheese parcel was a little miserly, and the accompanying salad leaves a little dull.
HOWEVER, the four roast beefs that arrived after were absolutely delicious, as were the crispy roast potatoes the beautifully risen yorkshire puddings and the great selection of veg. Service was attentive and friendly. When asked if we were enjoying our meal, I believed the staff were genuinely interested.
Desserts were three shared amongst us 4 and were nice. Ice cream flavours were inventive and different, the bakewell tart delicious.
£100 for two rounds of drinks and three courses for 2 adults and 2 children was not bad value. Would happily return and recommend. Get the delivery of the starters to match the incredible quality of the main courses and we have a lot of ticks here!
Went for dinner here to celebrate getting a new job. Nice ambience within the place, we were a bit tentative about the food after being served two very poor meals a few months ago ( we were told this was due to a fill in chef). Tonight's meal was pretty good, both ordered lamb rump, which was cooked very well. The meat was tough in parts, however this didn't spoil it, and we will return as it is very local to us. I wouldn't say it is as good as one or two other local pubs that we have eaten at for a comparable price, otherwise would give 5 stars. Overall would recommend.
We booked to go on a Friday lunchtime. We received a very friendly greeting on arrival. The design and decor is very modern. We found the food very well cooked and presented. The lunchtime menu is very good value the Ham hock with poached egg and chips was too die for !!!. We will return.
Went twice in one week, had the T Bone, absolutely delicious and chef was quite happy to prepare a sauce that wasn't listed on the menu. Nice selection of wines at a reasonable price, all staff are polite and pleasant, give it a try and judge for yourself!
Last Saturday, my husband and I spent the evening here with friends and were treated to a truly luscious meal. We all chose the Lamb - one of our friends chose the Linguine vegetable dish, followed by the most delicious hand-made puds and ice-cream. The lamb was so tender, it really did melt in your mouth - cooked to perfection - slightly pink and beautifully seared on the outside. Equal care was given to the accompanying sauce/gravy and vegetables. The people that served us were warm, inviting and friendly creating a great atmosphere within which to eat. The pub's recently refurbished decor includes beautifully exposed bricks and an ancient barn door with lovely nooks and crannies that allow you to enjoy both intimacy and at the same time feel a part of the generous, lively and jolly atmosphere. We were really luck too: there was a band playing later on in the evening whose repertoire included brilliant covers e.g. The Waterboys, Van Morrison and David Bowie. Such a great night right on our doorstep!
We were travelling to the area for a family gathering and thought we would stop at this restaurant for a Sunday lunch.
It was fantastic! Both my partner and I had the beef - it was melt in the mouth! Served with a Yorkshire pudding and just the right amount of vegetables. I went on to have the creme brulee which was delicious. We would highly recommend this wine bar/restaurant.
The wine is perfect and the staff are friendly and efficient, well done!
Enjoyed a midweek Pie & Pudding night . 2 homemade pies , Chicken & Steak pies with veg / gravy . Personally not fussed about a pudding but did ice cream , overall Good value for money .
Called in on off chance and very impressed. We had lunchtime menu and portions were good size and food wasn't wasted (as some places we've been to go bit overboard, hence waste). Will defo call in again when passing
Called in December. Service was really friendly and the was great and well presented but our visit was spoilt by lack,of heating.
My wife and I tried this restaurant for the first time. The setting is nice, clean and relatively fresh looking. There seemed to be an assumption that we perhaps had been there before as we were left to stand at the bar like a pair of stools. After a short time we were asked if we would like to sit at a table. Rather than being shown to one, one was pointed out to us by the staff whilst still standing behind the bar. No menus provide. So had to get up and ask for them. My wife's starter came after about 20 mins, which she thoroughly enjoyed. I chose not to have one. The mains came out after another half hour, which was a bit too long. The food was very tasty and well presented. Again it seem to take 10 mins to receive the bill.
I would return, and am optimistic that the service will improve upon this visits. The restaurant wasn't that busy as there were only 8 diners.
Arrived just as the restaurant was closing at 2pm after driving for 3 hours in traffic. Whilst we were unable to get hot food they were really helpful and made excellent sandwiches of different varieties for our party of four. Nothing was too much troubleBy sharing your experiences, you're helping travellers make better choices and plan their dream trips. Thank you!
We went here for a pre-theatre dinner, although at the time I didn't know as it was a birthday surprise! The food was lovely and the owner was wonderful, went above and beyond to get us to the theatre after dinner.
Having been completely refurbished last Nov 14, you would not recognise the place. Visited this wine bar/restaurant today for the first time since it re opened. What a great place. Although it was quiet the establishment was very tastefully decorated and the service was quick and professional. The lunch menu had serval options to chose from and the value for money was great, only £12.95 for three delicious courses. I could not fault the food and the chunky chips were the best I have ever tasted. I will definitely be returning here again and have no problem in recommending this restaurant.
Sunday lunch with my family while they're moored in Yelvertoft. The menu had a good choice of food (we all cleared our plates) , service was good, nice relaxed environment. No complaints. What more can you ask for.
