Took my elderly mum here for Sunday lunch and we all really enjoyed the place, the friendly welcome and the fresh food served. We asked for a table near the door as my mum was in a wheelchair and this request was met. The food was freshly prepared and served hot and was really tasty. Definitely recommend, particularly if anyone is going to Kilworth Hall, which is a few minutes down the road. Will definitely be returning.

As a resident of North Kilworth we have seen a real change, since Christmas 2017, in our local village pub from a ‘wine bar/restaurant’ to a straightforward village pub. It now serves good honest pub food at reasonable prices with real ales to match. Cliff and his team have worked really hard to welcome us locals back to ‘our’ pub and I’m delighted to say it’s working! At our last visit we both ha a slice of chef George’s homemade pie and it was delicious.
It needs to be stated that what you may see as Management Responses to the other reviews seem to come from the previous tenants, and not from the current ones, so should be taken with a pinch of salt.

Stopped for a quick lunch. Small specials menu as well as full menu. Sandwiches through to full meals.
Food was fresh, hot and lots of it. Only a few people in as a Monday but the barman made you very welcome. Would visit again if in the area.

At last the village now has a local pub, serving great pub food at affordable prices, served with a smile. Cliff has really turned The White Lion around from somewhere proporting to be an ‘upmarket wine bar that was usually empty and soleless’ to a wonderful community pub with friendly staff. Cliff has managed to fill the place with great charity pub quizzes on the last Sunday of the month, along with other fun themed evenings. If you are looking for a great local pub this is the place to come. Please note that this is no longer a Wine Bar or somewhere trying to be a posh upmarket restaurant and is under new ownership

Arrived here on Sunday for lunch prior to a stay in a local hotel.
The inside is tastefully decorated and the tables and chairs are comfortable. We were served promptly and the food was excellent. 2 roast beef dinners and 2 salmon dinners. Desserts were just the right size for lunch. The staff are very friendly and certainly look after you.
Thanks for a lovely Sunday lunch.

This is no longer a Wine Bar as still listed on Trip Advisor - but with recent new management has been returned to being a pub with an excellent varied menu, fairly priced and offering good size portions all well cooked and presented. All four of us had something different and we all thoroughly enjoyed our meals.
We will be back for more - soon!

Loving the new simple, pub grub menu. We ate here a week ago and enjoyed all of our meals. I had the salmon in butter sauce which was cooked perfectly and then to finish I had the toffee crunch pie, very very good. We were very surprised with the bill at the end, great value for money!!

We visited the White lion for a Sunday lunch with a large group of freinds. The pub itself is very well presented, pgood decor and very clean. The menu had a large choice of traditional Sunday lunch meats ( and a veggi option ) and is accompanied with a very good selection of vegetables. We all had three courses all served hot, generous portions and very well presented , served by pleasant staff and finished of with coffees, lattes etc . Value for money was excellent. I understand this is under new management, well done keep it going, traditional pub food. We shall see you again .

I have been to this pub a few times previously and have found the food of a high standard and generally enjoyed both the meal and the ambiance. However on this occasion and totally unaware of the change in management / chef.... we have what I can only call a mediocre and disappointing pub meal. Yes the staff were friendly but the menu was bog standard and whilst edible, nothing special! To be honest we could have gone to our local and saved ourselves the journey. My daughter had fish and chips and both appeared to have been cooked from frozen. The steaks are locally sourced and as such were much better and cooked well. This is a lovely pub with lovely up market decor, but with a basic menu. I understand the new owner is trying to tempt locals in, however I would like to suggest that whilst that is a good idea, you are as a result losing customers who want something a bit special but still local... you can have both you know! Extend that menu please and get a chef in who prides himself (or herself) in cooking good food well... not cheap and straight from the freezer please. It's unlikely we will return...should have gone to Market Harborough or Gilmorton!

We discovered that this pub is now under new management, so decided to give it another try. At least their heating is now working which makes such a difference. I had the Lamb Tangine which was gorgeous, followed by the Christmas pudding ice-cream - really lovely and I left wishing I'd had two scopes! New landlord very friendly and happy to talk to his customers. Nice to see the pub busy as on our last visit under the previous ownership, it was very quiet with no heating! Good improvement all round & we will be back!

I have visited here on several different occasions for dinner and drinks at the bar. The landlord has orchestrated a team of brilliant staff who all together make the whole pub a lovely place to spend the evening. The food is perfectly tasty, and ideal for a family get together. I shall be visiting here many more times, and will speak highly of it to friends and family!

We have visited the White Lion on a number of occasions with friends and have always found the food excellent, nicely presented, generous portions and well cooked. It is also a very attractive pub and quite cosy inside but on occasions is cold. We met up on the 16 December 2018 for a pre-Christmas evening meal and somehow it wasn't the same. Instead of being given a menu as before, the meals were chalked up on a blackboard above the fireplace. It was almost impossible to read it and someone was sitting right underneath so you couldn't get that close. The staff were helpful and read it out for us. Although there were plenty of options on the menu it was fairly typical pub type food such as gammon, egg and chips, fish and chips, steak etc.. I ordered a prawn and mackeral starter in a Marie Rose sauce. The prawns had no flavour whatsoever and the sauce was very thin and tasteless. I had sirloin steak to follow which was very flavoursome and cooked as I had ordered. However the chips were obviously frozen and did not seem to have been cooked properly as several were quite hard and others were just flabby in fact very unappetising. It was served with a small portion of peas, half a tomato and half a mushroom! One of our friends chose gammon, egg and chips but the ham turned out to be cold and not a gammon steak. He said he enjoyed it but not what he expected. None of us had dessert but we all agreed that it was not quite as good as it had been on previous occasions. We wondered if it had changed hands or with the run up to Christmas had simplified the menu to make it easier for the kitchen staff. There was a notice on the door stating cash only so they hadn't even got a card machine or it was out of order. It was fortunate that we had sufficient cash with us. The staff were very pleasant and service was good. We shall try it again but it won't be worth the journey if they are only serving average pub grub which you can get anywhere.

We visit Kilworth Theatre on occasions and this restaurant is only a few minutes away and provides a convenient and sensibly price early evening dinner. They start serving about 17.30, allowing ample time to enjoy the experience and still get to the Theatre with time to spare.

We arranged a pre wedding meal for 10 people here. The service was brilliant and we were asked to preorder our meals as this is quite a small pub and it was a Friday. The bar/ restaurant was lovely and had a welcoming atmospheric feel. The food was really good and plentiful and they had prepared a large table. Brilliant night and thoroughly recommend if you are in the area.

Have eaten here twice recently on a Thursday and have to say the 2 pies are amazing. Just the right size and served on a bed of mashed potato (very nice) and seasonal veggies. Can only say if I keep on returning on a Thursday night, I will be on a permanent diet the rest of the week. Also tried various desserts - all very yummy and not good for the waistline......! Definitely compliments to the chef!

Popped in on a Thursday night for the Proper pie and Pud night, £11.95 per person for as the title implies, a 2 course meal , mains course a steak and ale pie plus chicken pie on beds of mash potato with side dish of veg followed by a choice of nice desserts.
Really nice meal, ten out of ten for what is excellent value and quality, definitely worthy of another visit!

After the refurbishment we thought things would be improved . Sadly not. The overall decor was better, the couple of locals at the bar and the only one table booked for a Saturday night should have been an omen.
The starters, garlic prawns, on bruschetta, more chilli prawns obviously not for someone who hates chilli , but the shredded duck, , what can one say, over cooked to the point of uneatable, no mungo beans so sent back half eaten. Only an apology ! The main course, perhaps I shouldn't have ordered duck again ( but I do like it when cooked pink and succulent ) was again massively overlooked., dry and crispy , half uneatable , again just an apology . Husbands steak was fine.
There was no reduction in price, the barman/ waiter wasn't allowed. So,won't be returning !

Previous xperience of this restaurant is that there is all ways something slightly wrong. This time it was the wait for our food, which was appalling. 35 mins from order to receiving our starter and 30 mins for our main course. My starter was platter of Italian meats so no cooking required and my wife's was garlic prawns. 10 mins to stir fry I imagine. It was very quiet, only 4 other people in the place. So workload not an excuse. In fact I noted another table were served their starters separately with a 10 min time difference. The young man serving was very polite but not attentive, preferring to speak to friends at the bar. I did complain at the end of our meal and he knocked 2 drinks from our bill for our wait. This is hardly the point though . The food was ok although my 12 oz steak bore no resemblance to Sirloin but was a misshapen lump of meat. By this time I just wanted to leave and could not be bothered to complain. You have a great environment but service and attention to detail let you down.

Meet The Team At The White Lion, North Kilworth 19/08/2019
Have you been to the White Lion Pub in North Kilworth recently? It no longer carries the elite 'wine bar and formal dining image', as it's now back to being just a great 'country pub' for the local community...
