THE MOURNING AFTER
  • The Empty Space 48 Kansas Ave, Media City

A brand-new comedy all about love, friendship and…revenge.

You are invited to the funeral of Dylan James, a young man taken in his prime under mysterious circumstances. But amongst the mourners are two mysterious women; both Dylan's exes. Witness these women's confessions as they tell you their stories, going back to how they knew him, dated him, fell for him, discovered he was cheating....and what they did next.

With lightning-fast wit, hilarious characters and some dark comedy, ‘The Mourning After’ places power in female friendships and proves that if hell hath no fury like a woman scorned, you should see what happens when there's two of them...

This is the debut full length play from writer Eleni Varon, a Jewish writer from London and based in Prestwich who has written numerous shorts for various scratch night and short work performances. Of the play she says “I think relatable storytelling where we can laugh at ourselves and our experiences is important. Especially as women, by recognising our similarities and laughing at our misfortunes we can unite and feel less alone.”

Varon is co-producing alongside Tom Hardman who is no stranger to the Manchester fringe scene or to producing bold, dynamic and innovative work. In the past he’s delivered innovative shows such as the Arts Council funded LIONMAN and the outrageous comedy CHICKEN SH!T. “I love how this plays story subverts expectations of the ‘vengeful woman’ trope and delivers it’s message with big laughs” he says. Hardman has appeared in TV shows such as Coronation street, Our Zoo and Doctors and won awards for his performance in the short film ‘Once upon a time in England’
