A care home in Stockport is opening its doors to the local community for a Formula 1-themed fundraising event ahead of the British Grand Prix.

Care UK’s Ladybrook Manor, on Dairyground Road, will be fundraising for Race Against Dementia on Friday 4th July from 2:30pm-4pm, by hosting a Grand Prix Sports Day.

On the day, four teams will compete across six fun, racing-themed challenges, all designed to be inclusive and adaptable so that residents and the community can actively participate.

The red, orange, blue and green teams, inspired by Ferrari, McLaren, Williams and Aston Martin respectively, will take part in challenges including the ‘Hopper Dash 500’ – a space hopper race – and the ‘Hot Wheel Hustle’, a matchbox car and spoon race.

Other activities will include a three-legged race aptly named the ‘Pit Stop Shuffle’, a welly wanging ‘Checkered Chuck’ and the ‘Water Pit Stop’ relay race. To finish, residents and the community will compete in ‘The Final Pull Down’, an action-packed tug of war.

A host of prizes, including homemade sweets and treats, will be on offer for the winning teams and refreshments will be on offer throughout the day to keep everyone fuelled up and ready for action. Adding a touch of vintage flair to the day, Ladybrook Manor has also arranged for a display of classic Japanese cars to swing by for residents and guests to enjoy.

This event forms part of the ‘Care UK Grand Prix’, which will see Care UK care homes across the country participating in racing-themed events to raise money for Race Against Dementia - a charity founded by racing legend Sir Jackie Stewart OBE, following his wife Helen’s diagnosis of frontotemporal dementia. The charity raises funds for research into the prevention and treatment of dementia. The money raised at these events will go directly to supporting the charity’s efforts.

Susan Cameron, General Manager at Ladybrook Manor, said: “We’re really looking forward to bringing the community together with residents here at Ladybrook Manor for our very own Care UK Grand Prix event. Raising money for vital charities like Race Against Dementia is so important to us and we’re delighted to be able to host such an action-packed and fun-filled event.

“We’re hoping for a great turnout on the day so that residents can continue to build meaningful relationships with the community and so that we can raise as much money as possible for such a wonderful cause.”

Designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence, Ladybrook Manor provides full-time residential and dementia care, as well as short-term respite care, and incorporates plenty of space for leisure activities and hobbies.

The building has been configured into a series of neighbourhoods to help facilitate the creation of close-knit communities and encourage social interaction among the residents, and the home has its own couple’s suites, café and hair and beauty salon.

Notes to Editors:

Care UK is one of the largest providers of residential care for older people. As a well-established organisation with over 40 years of experience in caring for older people, we are proud to run 165 homes offering both residential and nursing care.

For two years running, Care UK has won more major care sector awards than any other large care home provider. We also have more outstanding rated homes than any other organisation. Those are just some of the reasons why we’re trusted by more than 10,500 residents and their families.

Our care homes provide an impressive range of services for older people, ranging from short stay respite care to nursing care, end of life care, plus specialist care and support for people living with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia.

We are proud to be building so many modern, luxurious and comfortable new care homes - we have opened more than 55 new homes since 2013 and expect to open at least six more homes by the end of 2026 in locations including: Southampton, Saffron Walden, Tring, Birmingham, Stafford and Copthorne.
