Loughborough University is an absolute hotbed of design talent it seems to me; yet another student has won a prestigious innovation award.

Hari Meyyappan was awarded first prize in the Autocar-Courland Next Generation Award 2010 for his Plug-In Hybrid Electric 2-Wheeler. The idea to convert an existing standard engine into a plug-in hybrid was acclaimed as "no less than brilliant" by the judges.

The prizes should kick-start his career nicely - five months' work experience with some major motor companies, plus £7500 cash.
