Halloween and Bonfire Night

Despite the unseasonably warm Autumn weather, Halloween and Bonfire Night are rapidly approaching so here are some pointers to help you make the most of this time of year:

Halloween Events

All the Halloween events I know about are right here on our Events page, the link should take you straight to the dates covering Halloween weekend. Look out for the pumpkins! Some more events further afield around Leicestershire are here too. A few more I've heard of are:

Spooky Walk with Ghost Stories - The Old Station, Whitwick
Thu 28th October - Leaving at 7pm and returning for soup & crusty bread. Cost £3. Bring a torch. Booking: 01509 556793

Spooky Science - Snibston Discovery Centre
Sat 30th October - Mad Science with a Halloween theme, shows at 11am and 2pm in the New Century Theatre behind the museum. Suiable for ages 5-10. £5

Starlight Halloween - Crich Tramway Village
Sat 30th October - Woodland ghost walks, tram rides, and creepy creatures in the trees. Free entry for children in Halloween costumes. Last entry 6pm. See www.tramway.co.uk.

Bonfire & Fireworks Events

Fireworks displays are becoming fewer and further between as legislation and the dreaded health and safety issues seem to discourage them, but there are some here around Loughborough and more here in Leicestershire as a whole. More will be added as we hear about them and you are free to add your own events to the website too.

It’s also Diwali the same weekend so if you brave the crowds and go to the Belgrave Road in Leicester you’ll get a free fireworks display anyway!

Fancy Dress Costumes

Halloween must be the best excuse of the year to dress up (especially for adults!) so check out Jokers Masquerade for the best selection of costumes around.

You Still Gotta Eat

Grab fresh veggies and maybe some autumn game (and a pumpkin for the kids) from Woodcock Farm, or try David North’s delicatessen for pies, pastries and that all-important bottle of juicy and heart-warming red wine. Or go to both, they’re only a mile or two apart.

Or just give up on cooking altogether and go to the Royal Chequers; we keep hearing from people who’ve been going to this restaurant for 20 years, so when it comes to being “thebestof” this place certainly is!
