This is on my list of pre 1500 AD Cathedrals to visit.. so far do e 22.. This is one of the best I've seen so far.. Not only the building, but also the people that welcome visitors to the place. (Note: all staff at all of the Cathedrals I have visited have been great)
This has free entry.. but I always make a donation (with gift aid) as it helps with the continued upkeep of the church.
The "staff" are very friendly and helpful and knowledgeable about the history of the Building.. Willing to impart their knowledge...
Make sure you look around... Notice the Mason's marks on the pillars... look at the "Bible exhibition".. and make sure you try and the "Green Man" sculptures/effigies...

This was our first time visiting Lichfield and thought we would take alook at the Cathedral and WOW what a spectacular view...The building was amazing the character within the structure was just out of this world.

We entered and a service was due to start so we had to be quick in taking some photos the inside I must say was such a beauty it made me feel emotional totally outstanding structure.

Definately worth a visit.

Beautiful as always, the ladies and gentleman on the door and within were so polite, well mannered and welcoming. The little play area for the children was a nice touch, the collections of historic bibles and other tapestries were fascinating, and the gift shop was very nice and affordable.. the lindasfarne mead also is a must to try! Thank you all at Lichfield cathedral

Lichfield Cathedral is a truly magnificent building—grand, historic, and impossible not to admire. Its striking triple spires and detailed stonework create an unforgettable first impression, especially on a sunny day when the stained glass windows gleam and the light catches the stone in all the right ways.

Whether you're stepping inside for a quiet moment or simply admiring it from the outside, the scale and beauty of the cathedral leave a lasting impression. It’s a place that invites reflection, appreciation, and a real sense of wonder. A must-visit if you're in the area.

The friendly cathedral. We made two visits to this incredible and approachable cathedral. The first was to attend the solemn Sunday choral Evensong on June 29th, and for a general tour on Monday, June 30th. On both visits we were able to view the building with its depth of history and wonderful architecture. Choral evensong was a sheer delight and we sat deep in the midst of it. The service was warm generous and lovely to listen to. after the service we stayed to carefully wander around the cathedral and were regularly noting how splendid everything was. The next day we booked a general tour at a cost of £5 and were treated by Guide Graham to one of the best tours of a cathedral we have taken. Graham was so able to impart his enthusiasm and warmth for the building and its place in history and the community. Graham was warmth, full a telling stories and able to use illustrations to help us understand and appreciate what we were seeing. We would thoroughly encourage others to take such a tour. One of the impressive elements of both our visits was the use of large interactive displays which brought things to life. Another was the exhibition in the Chapter House charting the history of the bible within this country, with magnificent displays of information paired with the bibles they were explaining. When we were leaving the Chapter House on our tour with Graham, he pointed out something that we would never have seen. Carved in the capitals of a column were two boys: one was scrumping apples, the other was acting as a look-out.

Excellent guided tour up into the cathedral tower and onto the roof. A bit of a climb but it was expertly managed by our guide and steward. We were rewarded with great views of the internal construction, the spires, and the surrounding countryside.
In the church we got to see the massive 13m long table, created from a 5000 year old Fenland black oak.
