We live very near to Lichfield Cathedral and never tire of going there at least once a month, there is always something new to look at or some exhibition to look forward to. The amazing architecture is always a joy to admire, giving you a sense of going back in time, for anyone that has not been it is a must see.

No entrance fee, all that is asked is that you put something in the box on your way out. It is like being in another world, quiet, cool, serene, somewhere magical. even with nothing to do with religion, this place is something else.

If you are in Lichfield, you must go inside the Cathedral!

Our visit this time was for the Christmas Fair and the Christmas tree competition and the nativity scene. Well a very good Christmas fair with a lot of tables with a fine selection of ideas. The Cathedral is always worth a visit and a must if you visit Lichfield

This beautiful cathedral is well worth a visit, it is lovely inside and out. The detail within this building must be seen. There are a number of very famous people buried within it. Also a young hero called Stephen Sutton's ferneral service was held here

Despite extensive restoration and rebuilding, the earliest parts of Lichfield cathedral date back over 800 years. It is built of sandstone and has the distinction of being the only medieval Gothic style cathedral with three spires. Of particular note are the flemish stained glass windows which are extremely elaborate and colourful.

The Cathedral dominates the city of Lichfield and is well worth a visit. The Building has a Majestic West Front with statues depicting various Saints and Kings of Mercia still in situ. Once inside, I was greeted by a helpful guide and there is plenty of literature for the visitor. and there is plenty to see once inside the Cathedral. When I was there, (05.11.15), the Cathedral was in the middle of a massive re-wiring project and so access to parts of the North and South Aisle was at times limited, The main attractions, the Chapter House and St. Chad's Head Chapel are well worth a visit. The Stained Glass in the Lady Chapel, originally from Herekenrode Abbey has now been renovated and is back into the windows. These windows are worth a visit alon, but there is so much History and the Cathedral is home to the Lichfield Gospels, dating back to Saxon times and generally on display in the Chapter House (At the moment they are in the British Museum in London). There is an excellent gift and book shop where there are guide books and where photography Permits are available, currently costing £3.00. There is also a gift shop on the Cathedral, in the South West Corner of the Cathedral, but whilst the re-wiring is being done, the only book/gift shop is in the Close. There is also a Well worth a visit and like most Cathedrals, best go round on a guided tour and then go round again to get the photographs.

A beautiful cathedral, in a great city. A stones throw from the city centre. Accessible to all. Gift shop is across the street in one of the medieval buildings in the cathedral close.
