We were blessed with a lovely sunny afternoon - we gave thanks to the volunteer at Shugborough Hall who recommended we come, wow, wow and wow again!

The exterior of the cathedral is covered in statues and carvings and is well worth spending time trying to take in this extraordinary visual feast. The interiors are beautiful and have immense grandeur. We really enjoyed the many types of encaustic tiles in the floor at the business end of the cathedral.

Already really looking forward to when we can next visit.

There are many things to notice about Lichfield Cathedral. The interior is as grand as you could hope for and the facade is really stunning. It is covered in statues.

In front of the entrance is a small green where there are occasional events and allows you the space to take some great photographs.

This is a working church and there are often services and events linked to the local community.
Around Christmas time they have many different carol evenings. For the last two years we have attended one of the shopper's carol services; held on the last Saturday before Christmas at 12.00 and 16.00. My partner is a Christian and even I enjoy singing the carols. They also have many Christmas trees in one section of the church, each one is decorated by a different school or business and you pay a nominal fee to view them (I think it was £1 per person), the money is donated to charity. All of the events are advertised on their web site.

There is disabled parking in the Close directly outside the front door, but this is limited. Follow the signs.

If you are mobile there is a car park fairly close by, but I would recommend parking in the city centre and walking the 5-10 minute walk so that you see the river and cross the bridge to the Cathedral. You will then arrive at the close at the side of the Cathedral and can see all the ornamentation and statues on it as you approach the front. There is also a great little tea shop, run by the cathedral at the river end of the Close.

What an amazing sight when you enter Cathedral Close and see the impressive stone work at close hand. Very welcoming volunteers and a very knowledgeable guide in the Chapter House. Local youth orchestras were rehearsing for a concert during our visit and there was a small art exhibition of work by local artists, it seems so right that this amazing building is used for community activities. Beautiful stained glass recently restored. No entrance fee but donation suggested which can be gift aided.

Lichfield cathedral dominates the small town of Lichfield and it is well worth a look. The inside has beautiful medieval stain glass windows (recently restored) and many interesting artifacts. The staff are very pleasant, helpful and keen to explain the history behind the cathedral. I was impressed by its welcoming ambience and its obvious links to the community.

Nice surrounds with some amazing detailed stonemasonry. Flying buttresses abound and the fan vaulting is impressive. Reading the memorial plaques reads like a trip down Victorian military campaigns.

Our first visit to this wonderful cathedral. Apart from the awe inspiring building itself there were lots of interesting things to see and helpful volunteers to offer information and assistance. The Cathedral Close and the surroundings,so near to the busy streets provides an oasis of calm. It is very much the jewel in the crown of this delightful city.
There is an attractive shop nearby and facilities for food and drink too.
