We visited the Cathedral on Saturday while taking a break from the food festival. Entrance is free although they do ask you to make a donation which I'd urge everyone to do, even if it's only a few pounds it will help. The cathedral is beautiful inside, I'm no expert on architecture but it was extremely beautiful and tranquil inside. We spent about half an hour wondering around inside and it was a great break from the bustle outside. Would heartily recommend.

Only had time for a very quick look around the cathedral but I would say it is one of the prtiest in the land. We spent time looking at the outside as we sat watching the food festival outside and I found the facade to be of an extraordinary standard. Will take a linger look around next time I am in the area.

We arrived late in the day when they were closing in preparation for something, but a lovely lady still let us take a peek and found some information brochures for us and the children.
Will definitely return to see the interior, however the exterior is one of the most ornate I have seen in many a city.

This was surprisingly our first visit inside the cathedral and it really is a stunning building.

On arrival we were ushered to the ticket desk to get a 'ticket' for entry (even though it is free) so they can count numbers, which is fine, but then the young lady proceeded to discuss donations with us and asked if we wanted to make a contribution there and then so they could claim gift aid. Whilst we always make a contribution to the upkeep of historical buildings, we do this via the donation boxes rather than by debit cards. If the cathedral needs to charge a little for entry them I'm sure this wouldn't put too many people off, but don't guilt people into making a donation as this puts a dampener on the visit.

Aside of this, the visit was lovely and we were lucky enough to see the Chapter House with a few pieces of the Staffordshire Hoard on display too.

Nice to find out a little more about one of our distant relatives too - Col Bunbury.

Lichfield Cathedral is one of the finest and most beautiful in the country
But unlike many other cathedrals, Lichfield is free to visit.
They make a charge is you wish to use your camera inside, but entry is free.

There are free guide leaflet to guide you round the cathedral's sights, displays of the cathedral's treasures and small exhibitions.
There is a small shop in the cathedral, and the cathedral bookshop is opposite.

A piece of history which when you live in the area is often dismissed as too local to visit. The architechture is magnificent and there is plenty of opportunity to learn on a visit to the Cathedral.
