Well worth visiting"Lichfield" in Staffordshire. Greeted by the spires of Lichfield Cathedral, the road takes you straight into the centre. This beautiful Cathedral with all his astonishing stone carvings, marble figures has been founded by St Chad, healer and founder of the "hospital". Next to the Cathedral lived and worked Erasmus Darvin, granddad of the great Charles Darwin. Reading about the Cathedral and the history, the great minds who gathered here, the incredible library...it becomes clear why Charles Darwin became the great naturalist, biologists, the father of the proposition that all creatures descent from one common ancestors.
You also will find lovely ,little shops, great samples of manmade example of metal, wood crafting....and Nicely decorated pub windows in Lichfield.
Nice day out...

My all time favourite cathedral. Sit on the lawn and be blown away by the amazing front of this place. So many figures! I am liking the new statue of St Chad. The experience inside is inspiring.Quiet places to reflect on life but also open spaces that show the splendour of the architectural design. Quite simply awe-inspiring!

Our first sight of Lichfield didn't really excite. It seemed just a small row of houses with a pub as we drove along the main road. When we visited to see the cathedral we realised this is a town with a lot to offer. Plenty of cafes, restaurants, pubs and of course the cathedral.
The shear size of the building, detailed stonework and the windows were brilliant.

Well worth taking time to soak in the atmosphere and take a good look round. I'd briefly before and it didn't make a strong impression, but this time I was in the city for the weekend, singing services in the cathedral, and had time to appreciate its real beauty. It's a great combination of beautiful gothic architecture and very fine Victorian features like the choir screen and the tiles in the choir. Don't miss the fine Lady Chapel modelled on the Sainte Chapelle in Paris, and with beautiful Flemish stained glass. Little corners like the upstairs chapel of St Chad's head (yes!) and the charming arcaded seats in the Pedilavium (Chapter House vestibule) are well worth seeing too,
