My first interest when booking my visit was - trees, as in Arboretum - I left with the impression they come second in more than title. Despite some of the area showing signs of earlier flooding - the place was like a desert and not much evidence of watering even though there's a large fast flowing river on the western side. Many of the younger planted stock was in severe stress with much evidence of various pestilences.
There are relatively few mature trees on the site and it's plainly obvious that the scheme has had big ideas plonked down into it because someone thought they were needed - it will naturalise and mature overtime, hopefully. Visitors are guided towards a landscaped earthen mound bounded by curved walls and columnar clipped trees reminiscent of an ancient temple - various roads and paths radiate away.
A gaggle of designer buildings offering all the facilities expected of a public attraction including Ye Gifte Shoppe - no doubt on the scale that the planners hope to attract; however; on the day I attended, no one would describe the place as "busy" but service in the cafe was slow and the food cold though not so much of a rip off as some places I could mention.
Then - touchy subject - memorials to soldiers, sailors and airmen - when I was young, just after WW2 very few eyebrows were raised by the term "Glorious Dead" ( I have heard reports of staunch resistance over such things following WW1 by guys that served in it.) There's a great many memorials seemingly dotted randomly about but efforts have been made to separate the Services almost down to unit level - fashioned in stone and metals, they explore all artistic tastes. Some, to me are, undoubted blots on the landscape while others more subdued and fit their setting.
In true harmony with modern concepts, there's even a memorial to those "Shot at Dawn" too.
Meet & greet staff all excellent - big car park - entrance is free but plenty of emphasis on donations. Worth a visit but I couldn't help pick up on the slightly mawkish hint dropping off a relatives' ashes .... fees apply.

Have been intending to visit for a long time and finally got round to it today. Only saw a small area in the 3 hours we were there, definitely need more visits to see all the memorials. Definitely worth several more trips.<br>Also recommend restaurant for lunch.

A family friendly place to visit. Covers all aspects of world and UK conflicts. Not a 'morbit' place to look around. Staff very friendly and helpful!

As ever, a beautiful visit and a warm welcome from all the staff. There was a Christmas tree event which was beautiful to look around and great fun for the children who picked and voted for their favourites.
