Magnificent architecture and a rich history. The volunteer guides were excellent. They explained the past and made sure we saw all the features of the cathedral Lichfield Cathedral dates back to the seventh century. Itthis beautiful cathedral features three spires the inside both over 100 statues of Saints and biblical figures and is truly one of the most elaborate in England. The Stainglass windows are from the 16th century and are beautiful examples of Renaissance glass.

We booked a bespoke whole day tour which included coffee and lunch. Paul Nicholson shared his extensive knowledge in a humorous, inspirational way. We started off with the Daily Act of Remembrance, which set the scene and explained the history of the development of the site. We were fascinated by the care and planning of every memorial that made it so fitting and unique eg appropriate trees for the focus of the service remembered such as olive trees for Greek memorial, maples for Canadian, khaki leafed trees for ATS etc. so much ‘meaning ‘ hidden within the memorials eg slope for submariners (resembling a submarine) , trees in straight lines for ships convoys and children’s hands awry on Evacuees indicating confusion; also 6 pine trees facing ‘shot at dawn’ victim, representing the positions where the firing squad stood to take aim. We covered a great deal in the time we had and will not forget the<br>wonderfully moving and thought provoking day! Thank you Paul N and your amazing team.
