What's On at Lichfield Cathedral in September?

Standing at the heart of the city, Lichfield Cathedral is much more than a historic place of worship. Its year-round programme brings together music, heritage, art, exhibitions and special events, making it a great place to include on a day out in Lichfield.

Here are some of the highlights currently scheduled for September 2026:

  • Tuesday 1 September – Music for Reflection – 11.30am
The final Music for Reflection performance of the summer features Fran Ambrose (bass) with Martyn Rawles (piano). These relaxed Tuesday morning concerts last around 40 minutes. Admission is free, with a retiring collection.
  • Saturday 5 September – An Evening of Kate Bush – 7.30pm
Kate Bush's extraordinary music comes to life inside the Cathedral, performed by a 10-piece band, vocalists and the Mike Nowland String Quartet. Expect a journey through her much-loved catalogue, including classics alongside some lesser-known gems.
  • Thursday 10 September – The Music of Phil Collins & Genesis: The Candlelight Concert – 7.30pm
Hundreds of candles will help transform the Cathedral for a celebration of the music of Phil Collins and Genesis. A live band and vocalist will perform favourites spanning the progressive rock sound of Genesis and Phil Collins' hugely successful solo career.
  • Saturday 12 September – We Are Staffordshire: Stitched for Staffordshire – Exhibition Opens
Running 12 September to 4 October, this exhibition is part of the Cathedral's autumn programme and provides another reason to pop in and explore the building during September.
  • Tuesday 15 September – Organ Recital: David Pipe – 7.30pm
Experience the sound and power of Lichfield Cathedral's famous organ with David Pipe of Huddersfield Town Hall. Tickets are currently listed at £10 for adults and £5 for under-18s or eligible students, with unreserved seating.
