Some things are just meant to be. Alicia Best from North Carolina and Robert Jackson from England first met busking on the streets of Ireland, discovering a musical harmony that was serendipitous. Now based in North Carolina, A Different Thread brings the songs of their latest album, Over Again, back to the UK this Autumn. Their music weaves Appalachian alt-country and British folk-rock into a distinctive bluesy take on Americana.
Written through years of long-distance love, change, separation, and grief, the eleven songs trace a remarkable journey towards healing, renewal, and belonging. Alongside their own story, Best and Jackson explore wider questions around mental health, social and environmental justice, and how to find the courage to start over.
The album’s title track was written while driving into the path of a total solar eclipse. It recently won Best in Folk/Americana at the 2026 International Acoustic Music Awards, while the record has earned praise from Rolling Stone Germany, Americana UK, No Depression and RnR Magazine. Critics have highlighted the duo’s “harmonies to die for” and “exquisite songwriting.”
For their UK shows, A Different Thread is joined by Birmingham-based double bassist Mike Seal. Together, they bring the songs to life with stories, humour, rich harmonies and plenty of audience singalongs. Acoustic guitar, fiddle, bluesy harmonica and a suitcase drum kit take the show from intimate ballads to full-on foot stompers. As Glide Magazine put it, their “soaring harmonies…fall like loose feathers over dusty, infectious twang.”
