What tales can you tell about the Morecambe Winter Gardens?

Do you have any special memories of something that happened in the building? Where was you favourite place to sit? What was it like in the gods on a summer’s night? Did you, or someone in your family, work there?

We would particularly like to hear stories of the people who kept the building running: Selling tickets? Or ice-cream? Operating the lights? Or minding the stage door? Were you ever there when the building was empty?

Do you remember the night that it closed?

Artists Raisin & Willow are working with Live at LICA to create a show called ‘Sea Breeze’ about the life of the Winter Gardens. It will be shown there as part of the Seaside festival (over the weekend of Saturday 31st August & Sunday 1st September), and we are keen to gather stories from people who know the building.

If you have a memory you would like to share then please write it down and post to Alice Booth, LICA (Lancaster Institute for the Contemporary Arts), Lancaster University LA1 4YW or send an email to alice@liveatlica.org

Or you could post it through the Winter Garden’s letterbox at any time, or call in on a Sunday afternoon and leave your story in the Sea Breeze story box. (If you don’t mind us getting in touch with you, then please give your name and contact details.)

Also, on Wednesday 22nd May, we shall be in MORECAMBE LIBRARY from 1-4pm so please come along for a cup of tea, meet the artists and perhaps old friends, and share your stories.
