The Dukes is a key centre in Lancaster for theatre, films, music and comedy.
They first opened their doors as "The Dukes Playhouse" in 1971 (with the support of Lancaster Council) and quickly became the residence for The Century Touring Theatre Company who over the years, performed and presented a series of successful plays.
In 1987, the Dukes Playhouse presented its first outdoor promenade theatre in Williamsons Park - an elaborate and fun production which has continued to attract many national and international visitors. In fact, it is now recognised as one of the biggest annual walkabout theatre events in the UK.
