Students celebrate outstanding results

Students from the Access Diploma course at Lancaster & Morecambe College celebrated their remarkable success and were presented with their diplomas by Phil Wilkinson, Chief Executive of Ascentis.

Around 30 students with their friends and family attended the evening hosted in Lancaster & Morecambe College’s Coulson’s Restaurant, where they were delighted to receive their official certificates in recognition of their achievement on the course.

The access diploma course is aimed solely at adult students over the age of 19 and offers them a chance to return to study later in life. Jon Meadows who got Distinctions in all his subjects, has been offered a place at Lancaster University after completing his Access Diploma, said: ‘I knew I wanted to go to University and I knew that this course gave me a serious chance of getting there so it was a no brainer! I am not from this area but I had heard such good things about the course that I knew it would be the right option for me. The course was perfect, all three subjects I studied were subjects I have always been interested in and had wanted to do. This made it so much easier to enjoy the learning. I would definitely encourage people to do this course as long as you are committed and have the time to put in the effort. It’s not easy but it’s well worth all the hard work! I’ve also been working 30 hours a week whilst studying, so if I can do it, anybody can! The teaching is amazing and the tutors are very supportive.’

Phil Wilkinson Chief Executive of Ascentis, the examining body responsible for the delivery and assessment of the Access course, took the time to come and personally award these certificates to the great pleasure of the students receiving them. During his speech he commented on the variety of destinations the students were progressing on to including Nursing, Social Work, Teaching, Psychology and the challenges faced by mature students returning to study.

Sheila Henderson, the course manager also said a few words praising the students for their hard work and determination and thanking Ascentis for their support over the years and the great working relationship they have built with the Access course at Lancaster & Morecambe College.

After having enjoyed the presentation and the buffet, students and their families and friends headed off to continue celebrating before they all went their separate ways to new and exciting university courses.
