Share your Love of Northern Pubs

The Dukes is calling for stories of pub life and the characters who frequent your ‘local’ as the theatre prepares to launch its Pub Season.

From grumpy landlords and flirty bar-staff  past and present to regulars propping up the bar on a rainy afternoon, The Dukes wants to hear all about them.

Perhaps you met your partner in a local pub or have fond recollections of a stolen kiss in the back bar? Here’s your chance to share those memories and celebrate the romantic potential of a lively Northern pub.

Your stories, memories and photos will be featured on a special We Love Northern Pubs blog on The Dukes website www.dukes-lancaster.org or you can add them to the pub display currently in the foyer of the Lancaster theatre.

To take part, go to http://lovenorthernpubs.wordpress.com, email marketing@dukes-lancaster.org or visit The Dukes.

The Dukes Pub Season launches on October 6 with the home produced show Two, the Jim Cartwright modern classic drama based in a Northern bar in 1989.

The Dukes will transform one of its theatre spaces – The Round – into a fully operational pub from October 6-29.

And performing both sides of the bar will be Kieran Buckeridge, fresh from his success as Merlin in The Dukes summer outdoor production, joined by his wife, Ella Vale.

As well as playing landlord and landlady of Lancaster’s newest – and most temporary pub – Kieran and Ella will also take on all the characters who visit their bar.

The Pub Season also features three performances of another homegrown play -  Hi Vis -  starring Lancaster actress Christine Mackie from October 13-15.

This extraordinary story told by an ordinary woman, raises issues often discussed ‘down the pub.’

A Late Night Lock In showcasing four new short plays and a  range of complementary touring shows inviting the audience to put the world to rights over a pint, are also part of The Dukes Pub Season.

Tickets for any of the Pub Season events can be booked at The Dukes box office on 01524 598500 or www.dukes-lancaster.org
