Morecambe Seaside Festival 2013

The Trig Team will perform at the Seaside Festival

Morecambe's Seaside Festival, taking place on 31 August and 1 September, promises an extravaganza of street performance, aerial displays, fireworks and family fun, and is the only way to round off the summer holidays.

Below is a list of the events and activities taking place over the weekend:

PROFESSIONAL STREET THEATRE ENTERTAINMENT Saturday from 4.30pm onwards and Sunday from 12noon onwards

Throughout the weekend, be surprised and amazed by these incredible street theatre acts, brought to you by Covent Garden Entertainments and Fool’s Paradise.

DUGGIE CHAPMAN PRESENTS: THANKS FOR THE MEMORY - Film clips from stars who played the Winter Gardens Sat 31 Aug, 12pm and 2pm, at The Platform

Duggie Chapman MBE, actor, comedian, and theatre producer, brings his wonderful film programme offering rare film footage of the great music hall stars who played at Morecambe’s Winter Gardens in its hey day. Tickets £5, 01524 582803 / www.shopccc.co.uk

  SEA BREEZE at the Winter Gardens Sat 31 Aug at 6.15pm, 7.15pm, 8.15pm Sun 1 Sept at 6.15pm, 7.15pm, 8.15pm

Live at LICA work with artists Raisin & Willow, 'imitating the dog' and the people of Morecambe to uncover some of the secrets of the Winter Gardens. Sea Breeze uses music, voices, projection and breath to create an atmospheric performance in, and about, Morecambe’s most-loved landmark.

Installations throughout the day in the Winter Gardens – come along and walk round. Evening performances are ticketed and last 25 mins.

  MORECAMBE FIREWORKS SPECTACULAR Saturday 31 August 9pm

Launched from the Stone Jetty, these stunning fireworks can be viewed from along the Promenade with a spectacular backdrop of Morecambe Bay. 

 

AERIAL STUNT FLYING DISPLAYS - Watch from the Stone Jetty or Morecambe Promenade

TRIG AEROBATIC TEAM - Sunday 1 Sept at 1pm A unique blend of classic vintage glamour and dynamic close formation flying that totally captures the spirit of aviation. Visit the Trig Team's website.

GERALD COOPER - Sunday 1 Sept at 3.30pm Pushing his purpose-built Xtreme Air aircraft to its limits, this award-winning pilot will amaze you with his creative and skillful flying. Visit Gerald Cooper's website. Watch a video here

 

PAUL HAYES – GOING FOR A SONG at The Platform Sunday 1 Sept - Talks/appraisals: 11am-12pm, 1pm-2pm, 3pm-4pm

An afternoon of antiques and music.

This event will include antiques talks by TV antiques expert Paul Hayes. We invite you to bring along any antique or collectable item for a free appraisal, with a prize of an antique worth £100 going to the person with the most unusual or interesting item.

There will also be light music and refreshments.

 

Bright-More Promotions presents…ROCK BACK THE CLOCK at The Platform Sunday 1 Sept, doors open 7pm

‘BEST OF BAY’ FOOD FAYRE (to be confirmed) Sunday 1 Sept, 12pm – 6pm

The ‘Best of Bay’ Food Fayre will celebrate the quality of local Bay food produce, supported by a number of culinary attractions including food demonstrations and talks.

OTHER ATTRACTIONS There’s plenty to see and do over the weekend – for all ages!

…and don’t miss the thrills and spills of Taylor’s Fairground extreme white knuckle rides - this year Taylor’s are bringing some unique and exhilarating rides for adults as well as children – come and join in the fun!

 

Also taking place during the Sunday - the RNLI will be holding an Open Day. This will include displays of the Lifeboat and Hovercraft plus a rescue demonstration. Fun and activities for all the family whilst demonstrating the invaluable role of the RNLI in Morecambe Bay.

The Canoe Club and Sailing Club will also be holding an exhibition of boats on Sunday near the Yacht Club - all welcome to come and see the different types of vessels and talk to club members about sailing and canoeing in Morecambe Bay.

TRAVEL / PARKING INFORMATION
Please be aware that Marine Road will be closed to traffic between Northumberland Street traffic lights and the Central Drive Promenade roundabout during the following times: Saturday 31 August 6pm - 11pm Sunday 1 September 10am - 6pm Alternative routes will be signposted.

The Goods Yard car park (between Rita’s Café and The Station pub) will be closed from 4pm onwards on Saturday.

There is Pay and Display parking available at the Festival Market, but this tends to get very busy. There is additional parking further along the promenade to the East and West, at either Happy Mount Park or the Battery. For a map of Morecambe car parks please visit this page.
