January and February at the

Natural Health and Beauty Clinic in Arnside

(Written by Rosy Glover, Flower Essence Therapist and Doula)

Situated on the estuary shore at Arnside, The Natural Health and Beauty

Clinic is the ideal place to start nurturing mind, body and soul. Owner, Claudia

Carrillo has a background in nursing and a passion for health and wellbeing.

As a nurse, Claudia is familiar with both the personal and health needs of the

whole person. Her vision for the Clinic is a ‘one-stop-shop’ for people from

Lancashire and Cumbria to access high quality Alternative Health and Beauty

Practitioners.

Claudia has built a close-knit, expert team of Therapists who are able to

cross-refer to one another to treat most ailments, complaints and conditions

holistically, as well as make people feel good about themselves and their

appearance. Claudia acknowledges that a holistic approach is at the heart of

the success of the Clinic – a client who would like a manicure, may also like a

massage for a pulled muscle – someone who would like chiropody, may also

benefit from reflexology. Our care and interest in the whole person means that

we listen to client’s needs and make recommendations about a health and

beauty programme relevant to that person’s situation. In a rural setting this

approach makes time, ecological and health sense. It also means that the

Clinic forms an active relationship with the community – a place people come

for a bit of advice or information.

Claudia’s holistic approach has led her to train in Bioregulatory Medicine –a

diagnostic art, which accurately gets to the root of any problem or illness and

presents a joined-up approach to healing. Using this method, Claudia refers

patients to any of the therapists she thinks will be of benefit, giving them a

comprehensive analysis of the patient’s body and energy systems. Cutting

edge therapies such as Bioregulatory Medicine at the Clinic, complement the

more well-known therapies such as Counselling, and Acupuncture.

As the Flower Essence Therapist at the Clinic I know that along with a joined

up holistic approach, seasonality is also important to us here. Personally, I

work closely with the energies of the time of year, and with flowers and plants

to make and prescribe vibrational essences for emotional and spiritual wellbeing.

Often flowers that are growing or blooming at a certain time of year are

the ones most beneficial for use at that time. In my consultations, I ask client’s

if there are any flowers, plants, trees or animals that they have particularly

noticed recently. We then talk about the colours, shapes and properties of that

flower, to see if it’s essence would be of use. Being in tune with the earth’s

rhythms also enables our team to cater for people’s needs during that season.

January and February can be difficult months, dark, cold and tiring. At the

Natural Health and Beauty Clinic we expect people to feel ‘under the weather’

and in need of a boost. We also know that the new year brings in a desire to

change or start a new regimen, and in tune with the ancient festival of Imbolc,

it is a time to spring clean emotionally and physically! The massage therapists

are mindful about the boost in immunity people often require around this time.

They choose special essential oils, particularly lavender and ravensara to help

activate the immune system and fight off infection faster and easier. Beauty

therapists know that a pampering facial can assist with any sinus troubles,

and help to revitalise the skin if it is sluggish with excess from Christmas. All

the therapists take into account that they can provide a window of rest and

relaxation for people who walk into the clinic, and in January, more than any

other time of year, this can be a real support. Our Counsellor is ready to

support with any changes people want to make in their lives, particularly

giving something up or letting something go, and Flower Essences can

support this process too. Our Reflexologist and Foot Health Professional

know that party heals and winter boots can both lead our feet to need extra

tender loving care around January and February. Our Reiki therapists can

help with any sort of energy work that needs to happen on a healing path, and

can often be quite revitalising for the tiring winter nights and low energy in

January. Reiki in conjunction with creative tools can also help to achieve a

goal by focussing intent on a new year’s resolution.

Hand in hand with this seasonal approach, important to Claudia’s vision, is the

sense of community and celebration that is at the heart of the Clinic. Her

personal view is that the therapists available at the clinic always have a role to

play with the people locally. As such they work in partnership with local

organisations to reach people who perhaps wouldn’t normally walk into a

Natural Health and Beauty Clinic. They manage to do this through fundraising

events, where therapists charge minimal fees for mini-treatments, or through

celebration and pamper evenings with local service-providers and retailers.

Natural health and beauty, Claudia believes, can be integrated into our every

day way of life, rather than being something we access occasionally.
