Calling anyone who hosts artistic and entertaining events – Lancaster Arts City needs you!

Every first Friday of the month since October, Lancaster Arts Partners have offered special events, most of them free, to encourage more people to experience the wide variety of arts activities available in the district, encouraging residents and visitors to see the area afresh.

So far, most First Friday events have taken place at The Dukes, More Music, Ludus, Green Close in Melling and Live at LICA at Lancaster University.

However, organisers recognise that many other individuals and organisations are producing arts events in the area and want to encourage them to take part in First Fridays.

Contacts are currently being made with pubs and bars who host live music and there are plans to get in touch with a large number of galleries, dance companies, theatre companies and other independent initiatives not only in Lancaster but also in Morecambe, Heysham and rural parts of the district.

Ideally, venues need to make contact two months ahead of each First Friday to enable their events to be included in flyers which are distributed around the district. However, if this isn’t possible, new additions to each month’s programme can be promoted via Lancaster Arts City email, Facebook and Twitter announcements right up to the last minute.

Anyone who promotes or produces arts events and wants to take part in First Fridays, should get in touch with Simon Harrison at

Anyone who wants to receive monthly information about First Friday events should visit and subscribe via the form there.
