Bolton Council have announced that there will be free parking in Bolton town centre from 25th May.

Bolton Council have announced that there will be free parking in Bolton town centre from 25th May. There will be no charge for parking all day at weekends and bank holidays at Deane Road, Topp Way and Octagon car parks.

During the Christmas season (November 2013 to January 2014), it will be free to park in these car parks after 3pm. This is similar to what happened during the last festive season. Between November 15th  2012 and January 27th 2013 the same rules applied.

It is hoped that the reduced cost of parking will encourage more people to shop in the town centre. Shops based in the area will be creating deals and incentives to go with the new parking arrangements.

The free parking will last for a year.

The gripe I hear most from business owners in Lancaster and Morecambe is that the high cost of parking is driving their customers to out of town shopping areas.

Come on Lancaster City Council there has never been a better time to encourage Lancaster and Morecambe residents to Buy Local and help local shops both large and small survive these difficult trading times.
