Dogs Show the Way to Raise Funds for RSPCA & Wolfwood Animal Rescue
Around 35 dogs of all breeds turned up with their owners on Sunday 21st August to do a sponsored walk in Dallam Park, Milnthorpe, and surrounding countryside, to raise much needed funds for RSPCA and Wolfwood Animal Rescue, and organised by Bay Vets.
There was a complete cross section of canines ranging from a Great Dane and a Rottweiler down to a Corgi and a couple of Yorkies, with virtually every breed in between represented including several ‘Liquorice Allsorts’.
And Wolfwood sent along two of the loveliest dogs that are desperately in need of new homes, just to remind us why we were there, and helping out were some of the RSPCA Dog Walkers.
The dogs were all keen to set off – some of the owners not so keen it has to be said – and fortunately the torrential rain that had been falling stopped miraculously just before set of time, and the rest of the afternoon was in glorious sunshine.
Now as you can imagine 35 dogs of different shapes and sizes tend to walk/run at different speeds, as do owners of different ages, so a supreme job of marshalling was done by the Vets and staff of Bay Vets to get everyone safely around the three to four miles of route, through some of the most stunning countryside and scenery that you will encounter anywhere.
All dogs, large and small, completed the course as best of friends and with flying colours and we arrived back in Milnthorpe two hours from set off for the owners to enjoy a well deserved cup of tea.
The funds raised were further increased by a raffle and tombola before some very tired doggies set off back home ready to curl up in their baskets and dream of new friends made and adventures had – and in the case of two in particular – new homes found, hopefully!
