Dig This Free Visit

If you are intrigued by what goes on inside Lancashire’s extensive archives, now is a great chance to find out.

A Heritage Lottery Funded project, How Did Your Garden Grow, is offering the chance for people in Lancaster to enjoy a free visit to the archives in Preston during the forthcoming half-term holidays.

The project is exploring the history of Lancaster’s Storey Gardens and its use by people in the past.

The Storey Gardens have a long history in the city centre but were closed to the public in 2006.

The How Did Your Garden Grow project, led by The Dukes and managed by

Green Close, is designed to help share the magic of the Gardens with more people.

Along with The Friends of the Storey Gardens, Green Close artists are delivering a creative learning heritage journey for all and the trip to the archives on Monday, October 27, is the latest activity in the project.

Sue Flowers, artistic director of Melling-based Green Close, said: “This is a great opportunity to find out more about the archives and explore the fascinating documents it houses, including those that relate to the history of the Storey Gardens.”

A coach will leave Regent Steet (opposite Lancaster Girls Grammar School) at 9.45am sharp with the return journey leaving from the archives at 1pm. The coach travel and the visit are both free.

To find out more and book your place, contact Green Close on 015242 21233 or email: info@greenclose.org

How Did Your Garden Grow will become an ‘illuminated’ event on November 7, 6.30-8.30pm, as part of Light Up Lancaster 2014, a family friendly trail of discovery which reveals the heritage, stories and hidden treasures of the city for the public to enjoy in new and surprising ways.
