CELEBRATE THE FIRST FRIDAY OF SPRING

Spring into March with a First Friday bonanza of comedy, dance, video, music and literature.

Jumpers (what  must I do to be saved) is one of the free offerings on March 1. Taking inspiration from the religious practice of ‘jumping’ as a form of worship, this is a new Live at LICA commissioned video installation by renowned British artists Iain Forsyth and Jane Pollard. Experience Jumpers for free on March 1 between 11am-8pm in the Peter Scott Gallery at Lancaster University.

The Dukes is also providing a free event as part of the latest First Friday. There’ll be laid back beats and bar grooves with Lee Affen from 6-7pm in the Lancaster theatre’s bar.

First Fridays were launched last autumn to promote Lancaster Arts City. Every First Friday of the month, Lancaster Arts Partners aim to offer a range of mainly free events encouraging residents and visitors alike to see the area afresh and try out something new on the arts scene.

There’s a chance to enjoy a stunning triple bill by Candoco Dance at the Nuffield Theatre on March 1. Marking  their 20th anniversary, Candoco travel to the past, the present and the future to celebrate two decades of bold and unexpected dance works. Advance tickets cost £11.50/£8.50 concessions. To book, ring 01524 594151.

Over in Morecambe, More Music  host a Songwriters Circle for First Friday. Go along to hear the stories behind the songs and how they were crafted from the songwriters themselves. For tickets priced £6/£4 concessions, ring 01524 831997.

And bringing the latest First Friday to a tasty conclusion will be Hardeep Singh Kohli who presents his new show, Indian Takeaway, at The Dukes. The broadcaster, writer and Celebrity Masterchef finalist will order a local takeaway live on stage and then race against time to cook his own feast before it  arrives. For tickets priced £16/£14 concessions, ring 01524 598500.
