CancerCare Cross Bay Challenge events return this summer

The annual Cross Bay Challenge events will see over 600 people make their way across the shifting sands of Morecambe Bay on July 6th to raise money for South Lakes and North Lancashire families facing cancer.

Organised by local cancer support charity CancerCare, the events offer participants a truly unique way to experience the stunning local scenery with a choice of a half marathon challenge or a family-friendly 7 mile walk.

This year’s events will be led by Morecambe Bay Fisherman’s Association who will be providing expert guidance and safety support on the day. Jane Staniford, Fundraising Team Leader at CancerCaresays;

“Due to the unique nature of the Cross Bay Challenges, we’ve been working closely with Lancaster City Council and the Bay Guides to ensure that the event is as safe as possible.  We are really looking forward to it this year - it’s always a special occasion.”

HALF MARATHON

The Cross Bay Challenge is no ordinary half marathon and is the only known races in the world to cross a tidal bay. It is consistently voted one of the UK's top rated races. Starting at Hest Bank in Lancashire at approx. 12.30pm and finishing at Flookburgh in Cumbria, crossing sand, sea and county borders, this flat but challenging race is an adventure to remember.

7 MILE WALK

For 2014 this beautiful and exhilarating walk starts from Silverdale heading across the Bay to the shore at Flookburgh, accompanied at all times by the event’s safety support team. The walk is suitable for children and dogs are also welcome. Support vehicles will be on hand should any walker feel too tired or unable to complete the walk. The walk will set off from Silverdale at 12noon and arrive in time to cheer the runners through the finish line so it's a great option for family and friends there to support half marathon competitors.

ENTRY

Both events finish at Flookburgh with a beer tent and hog roast at the finish to welcome runners and walkers. There is also free transport available from Flookburgh to take participants to the start line.

CANCERCARE
