A Magical Christmas at Lancaster Castle

Lancaster Castle’s magical Christmas line up continues with a weekend of special festive treats for all the family on Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th December.

Embrace the spirit of Christmas in the ornate castle grounds with traditional Christmas carols, winter tales story-telling, birds of prey, children’s crafts and Santa’s workshop. Plus, write your letter to Santa and post it with his Elves to make sure he gets it in time for Christmas!

The weekend’s events begin on Saturday 14th December at 12pm, when work starts on a superb ice carving of Santa’s sleigh.  Talented ice sculptors Sand In Your Eye, will be working throughout the day to craft a detailed sleigh which you’ll be able to watch taking shape.  The group visited the city recently to carve a Father Christmas figure in the town centre as part of this year’s Christmas Lights Switch-on event.

When it’s finished, from 4pm children and parents can climb aboard the ice sled for a festive family photo to remember.  Or have a picture taken with Santa at 4:30pm.

Throughout the day children can work with Santa’s elves, making Christmas decorations to take home.

Youngsters can also learn how to be an Arctic Explorer with Wicked Workshops, Lancaster Castle’s resident workshop group.  The workshop will be on both days 1pm and 3pm and it’s £5 per child, suitable for children aged 4-12, who must be accompanied by an adult.

Enjoy live music from 5pm on Saturday, including local singer Amy Jo Clough on stage from 7pm.

Carol singing, birds of prey, winter tales, the ice sled and craft workshops continue on Sunday.

Francesca Lewis, Lancaster Castle’s events manager, expresses her excitement for the event:

“This has been a big year for the castle, having opened its doors to the public back in May.  We’ve seen some really successful events this year and had wonderful feedback on October’s Horrible Halloween Party, and last weekend’s Medieval Christmas.  Welcoming Father Christmas and his elves is a great way to top off the year and make Christmas extra special at the castle.  The weekend is packed full of family fun to get everyone into the Christmas spirit!”

Entrance to the event is priced at £2 per adult, £1 per child, with additional charges applicable for various activities throughout the weekend.

Don’t forget, Santa will be in his grotto at the castle all weekend from 12-5pm, plus every Saturday and Sunday until Christmas!  Entry to the grotto is £5 per child which includes a cookie and festive gift.
