With festival season officially under way, a care home in Kidderminster is welcoming the community for a fun-filled day of food and celebration.

On Saturday 8th August from 11am-2pm, Care UK’s Brook Court will open its doors to families and neighbours for a food festival, inviting guests to tuck in and celebrate the nation’s shared love of great cuisine, community and connection.

Visitors to the Oldnall Road home can look forward to trying diverse dishes from around the world brought in by the team. Food includes flavours from Germany, Latvia, Romania, Greece, Jamaica, Syria and Ghana.

There will also be a range of activities and serving stations such as a cocktail and mocktail masterclass in making and tasting and plant potting sessions for budding gardeners.

Resident Carol Muller, who reminisced about the years she spent living in Germany during the 1970s with her husband, said: “Traditional German dishes such as Bratwurst, Sauerbraten and German potato salad hold a special place in my heart, evoking cherished memories of family life, local culture and the happy times we spent as a young family in Germany.”

The event is part of the ‘A Taste of Home’ initiative, which will see all Care UK homes host foodie-themed celebrations and showcase what life in a care home is really like.

Each festival will offer sustainable, community-focused initiatives while celebrating the diversity and creativity within the homes, from residents’ favourite recipes and traditional dishes to seasonal menus featuring locally sourced ingredients.
