ASDA, the country's second largest supermarket is planned to open in Kidderminster creating 400 new jobs.

The supermarket is a planned redevelopment on the Churchfields site off St Mary's Ringway in Kidderminster which is currently industrial land. A petrol station and commercial offices are also planned adding further pressure to local Kidderminster based businesses that are already finding it tough in today’s economic climate.

New road infrastructure has also been proposed in the plans outlining a link road from Churchfields to the ringway roundabout.

The factory that formerly stood there, part of the Tomkinson's carpet business will be used as part of the new store and subsidiary buildings maintaining some historical value.

Before the official go ahead there still needs to be investment in the plans with a public consultation and exhibition to be held before a final application can be submitted. There is expected to be inevitable resistance from some public members in the Kidderminster area as added traffic and congestion is sure to follow such a development.
