I love my beautiful shelf (which has been most admired) and get great pleasure in the way it fits the room and displays my treasured objects so perfectly. What a joy to meet a craftsman, someone who has a real love for wood and has both the knowledge and experience to put it to many uses, beautifully!

Gordon Young is one of that rare breed of craftsmen with a true passion for his work coupled with a creative mind and artistic eye. He clearly loves wood and has the ability to see the potential for beauty in wood of any shape or type. In my case he took on a very practical and challenging task of building a large integrated combination of cupboards and filing storage systems to blend into my home office. He was painstaking in getting it right and had to stretch beyond his normal creative self and combine good looks with heavy weight functionality, which he did superbly. I am delighted with the result – a good looking, high quality hand built unit that is a pleasure both to look at and to use.

I have been both stunned and thrilled by the quality and craftsmanship of the three pieces of furniture I have commissioned so far from Finishing Touches. Each piece is designed and crafted with precision and loving care and the result is work of great elegance and beauty. The kind of craftsmanship you get from Finishing Touches is of a calibre I thought no longer existed and belonged in a bygone age. Yet the designs can be modern, chic and elegant. My wonderful chest of drawers, still, after five months, makes me stop and marvel at it each time I walk into the room
I cannot speak highly enough of Finishing Touches. I feel proud and privileged to own such beautiful pieces of furniture - each has its own aura of style and elegance, which enhances the beauty of my home.

Finishing Touches is an extremely apt name for a wood working service that will stretch the limits of endeavour with capable enthusiasm and tackle unusual requests as well as the highly professional and more standard carpentry and joinery generally required.
We have asked outside the norm and received rewarding and recommendable results.

We commissioned Finishing Touches to build a wall to ceiling unit which was installed in our open plan flat between the kitchen and the living room areas.
The purpose of the unit was to divide the large open space of the flat providing more warmth to the area and, at the same time, to provide book shelving and cupboards in the living area and kitchen shelving and cupboards on the other side in the kitchen area.
My partner being an architect provided the drawings to Gordon at Finishing Touches who took the project onboard and commenced work from his workshop. Angela came back to us with any queries on the job and kept us well informed on progress. When the shelving pieces were made to size Gordon arrived with his colleagues and the shelving, (there was a lot of it! ), to our flat for installation. We were very impressed as every piece of wood had been made precisely to measure with great skill and craftsmanship and fitted perfectly. It really is an additional feature to our flat and gives the flat so much more style and character. We never imagined we could have our own bespoke dual purpose shelving unit built with such craftsmanship at such a good price. We are made up with it

We had need for four sets of wardrobes for our 1860 house that were in keeping with the old property but were not faux antiques. Gordon at Finishing Touches made them for us, to our specifications. The maple and sycamore wood was beautifully finished, well joined and fitted, and served our old house and our own needs very well indeed
