There was a time when all dads did DIY and we learnt from them . . . which rawlplug to use in which wall, how to change a tap washer, put up a shelf, build a flat-pack assembly etc, etc, etc.
Then we all got a bit more money and didn’t have to do it ourselves anymore. Our dads didn’t do it themselves and we didn’t learn from them. We all looked to get a Handy Andy in, just like Carol Smillie did in Changing Rooms. We forgot how to do it ourselves.
Nowadays, money is a bit tighter and not all of us can afford to call in the professionals. Unless we have a DIY-ing granddad who can teach us, we don’t really know how to any more.
