On Friday, June 28th 2013, The Rt. Hon. Dr Vincent Cable, M.P. for Twickenham, opened the new practice facilities at Strawberry Hill Golf Club.
Also present at the opening were Councillor Meena Bond, the Mayor of Richmond, and Hannah Bladen from Sports England, whose 'Inspired Facilities' award enabled the upgrade. The award was from the 'Places People Play' programme delivered by Sport England in partnership with the British Olympic Association and the British Paralympic Association and forms part of the legacy of the London 2012 games.
Dr Cable commented "I am most impressed with the excellent work that Strawberry Hill Golf Club is undertaking to promote golf in the local community. I'm delighted to open these splendid facilities on such a beautiful golf course".
Strawberry Hill Golf Club works with the Middlesex County Golf Partnership in a range of initiatives to increase participation in golf, it is a centre for the EGU and the EWGA 'Get into Golf' initiative. The Club coaches groups of girls and boys from local schools, has strong links with the UK Golf League and has acted as a host venue for the Middlesex County Academy Programme.
