Appeals from charities funding research into killer diseases, or debilitating conditions are deeply moving. The plight of laboratory animals living a short life of intense pain and trauma in captivity is equally distressing. The great thing about Dr Hadwen Trust is that we no longer need make an agonising choice between alleviating human and animal suffering - we can do both at once. The Dr Hadwen Trust ensures we are moving towards a day when inflicting pain on animals is not necessary to cure human diseases - and indeed in many cases devises treatments and experiments which are more scientifically grounded, effective, and safe than their animal-tested alternatives. We should be very proud that the world centre of this ground breaking work is in Hitchen!
