About Us

For thirty-nine years, the Bush Theatre has pursued its singular vision of discovery, risk and entertainment.

That vision is valued and embraced by a community of audience members and artists radiating out from our distinctive corner of West London and across the world.

A local theatre with an international reputation for launching successive generations of playwrights and artists, many (now famous) began their careers from Bush Theatre:

  • Stephen Poliakoff
  • Victoria Wood
  • Catherine Johnson
  • Jonathan Harvey
  • Tony Kushner
  • David Eldridge
  • Samuel Adamson
  • Jack Thorne.

New Venue

In partnership with the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham, the Bush Theatre has secured an 125 year lease on the old Shepherds Bush Library - a spacious, historic and beautiful building in the heart of the community which allows the Theatre to expand its capacity for audience members, host its supporters in a café bar and increase its work in the community through additional activity.

All eyes will be on the Bush during 2011-12, as this much loved local theatre and international institution, opens its doors and unveils its new venue.

The First Season at the New Bush

The Bush Theatre throws open its doors in October 2011 with Sixty-Six Books. In this ambitious project, the company have engaged 66 playwrights, poets, novelists and song writers to respond to each of the 66 books in The King James Bible and celebrate its 400th year anniversary.

The festival will see Josie Rourke lead a team of directors presenting the works in three hour, six hour and two epic 24 hour events that present all sixty-six texts.

This will be followed by the world premières of new plays :

  • The Kitchen Sink by the Bush's Associate Playwright Tom Wells
  • Our New Girl by Nancy Harris

The Bush is proud to be a local theatre with an international reputation.

From the new home in the heart of Shepherds Bush, the company introduce bush local a free benefits scheme offering a range of discounts to anyone living or working locally.
