A care home in Cheltenham is inviting local people to join in its celebrations for Care Home Open Day.

On Friday 28th June, from 10am-4pm, the team at Sandfields, on St George’s Road, will be opening the doors to the care home for a free family-friendly event to celebrate Care Home Open Day, a countrywide initiative to create lasting relationships between care homes and their local communities.

This year’s theme celebrates the role of arts within care, which is important in encouraging residents’ self-expression, and helps to create meaningful experiences.

The team at Sandfields has organised an art-themed party to celebrate the open day, with entertainment, activities and creative fun for all. Visitors can look forward to a special showcase of residents’ photographic work, and local art teacher, Carolyn King, will be leading a session to create a giant piece of artwork.

There will be a card-creation table, where visitors will have the opportunity to create their own cards or purchase handmade creations, as well as a creative session with Little Pips Nursery. The team will also be launching this year’s fashion campaign at the Open Day, which will see the home working with local schools, community groups and shops to craft fashion items to raise money for charity.

Emma Mackenzie-Bedford, home manager at Sandfields, said: “The aim of this year’s Care Home Open Day is to demonstrate how care homes can be creative communities, and that is exactly what we plan to do. We can’t wait to open our doors to local people, including families, and have some fun together.

“Last year we had a great time hosting Care Home Open Day and I know this year is going to be even better. We look forward to making even more connections with the people of Cheltenham and celebrating the vibrant environment in our home.”

As part of a nationwide competition across Care UK homes, Sandfields will be developing a work of art in the lead up to the open day, which will be showcased at the event.

Sandfields is a state-of-the-art care home which provides full-time residential, dementia, nursing and short-term respite care.
